Guitarist/lutist Richard Savino maintains a rigorous schedule as a performer, recording artist, educator, and scholar throughout the US and abroad. His numerous awards include a Diapason d'Or from Compact (Paris) and a 10 du Rèpertoire. The Parisian journal also placed his Boccherini guitar quintet CDs in Great Discoveries — a category of recordings deemed essential to a quality classical music collection. His recording of 18th-century guitar music from Mexico by Santiago de Murcia was a featured Global Hit on the Public Radio International program The World and declared CD of the Month in the German periodical Alte Musik Aktuell. Other acclaimed recordings include the Boccherini Guitar Symphonia and Mauro Giuliani's Op. 30 Guitar Concerto with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, directed by Monica Huggett, and Venice Before Vivaldi; A Portrait of Giovanni Legrenzi. Mr. Savino is also featured in numerous European recordings with Ms. Huggett and Ensemble Galatea of Milan. Upcoming releases include a Koch CD of music by Mauro Giuliani with Ms. Huggett. Mr. Savino has performed with Houston Grand Opera, Opera Colorado, San Francisco Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, San Francisco Symphony, New York Collegium, Portland Baroque Orchestra, Mercury Baroque, and Los Angeles Baroque Orchestra. He has been featured in many television and radio broadcasts on NPR, BBC, and other networks. Richard Savino received his Doctoral degree from SUNY at Stony Brook, teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and is Professor of Music at CSU Sacramento. |
